Main dimensions, i.e. data for bricklining shall be checked. Marking and layout shall be in accordance with the installation drawing. Brick cutting shall be done by either machine cutting or manual cutting whichever is advisable in a given situation.
Mortar shall be mixed to a uniform consistency using an electric handheld mixer machine with a clean stirring paddle. Care shall be taken not to include foreign matters such as brick chips and debris.
Installation of brick shall be in accordance with the applicable drawings and SAES N 130 specification.
Refractory bricks shall be laid tight against the shell or backup refractory and shall be laid staggered or in bonded construction. Through joints must be avoided. Mortar with proper consistency shall be used on all 4 faces of the brick except the front and back face and expansion joint. The applied mortar thickness shall be a maximum of 2mm to 3mm.
As bricks are set in place they shall be driven firmly into place to ensure the required joint thickness of 2mm to 3mm is achieved.
The alignment of bricks shall be measured and adjusted with level gages and plumb bobs.
Excess mortar shall be scraped off by trowel after a short drying period, usually within 15 to 30 minutes after bricklaying. Reuse of scraped mortar shall not be allowed.
